Midwifery services

As a midwife, my main focus is building relationship, connection and creating a safe space, regardless of the context. I view this as the base of my entire practice, from shorter meetings to hours of conscious presence during birth.

For in-the-home midwifery support, you can hire me if you live in Värmland and, depending on the distance, also in Dalsland and Närke.

Sessions can be held wherever you live – in Värmland we can be in your home or at Hagaqliniken in Karlstad – an wherever you are we can meet online!

To book a session send me an email at jordmorvarmland@gmail.com, on Instagram or Facebook @jordmorvarmland using the form on the ’Kontakt’ page

Homebirth

In Jordmor Värmland I work with continuity – meaning the person I assist at a birth knows me long before and I, as a midwife, know exactly what the wishes and needs around the birth look like. Then, during the birth, the birthing person can completely focus inward without having to take in overwhelming information and get to know new people during the birth.

I strongly advocate for physiological birth for those who want it, and love to work in an environment where the birth can be as undisturbed as possible. I always strive to create a safe, permissive and strengthening atmosphere with the family I assist. I can be as active or passive as you wish – and am always open to the fact that wishes and needs can change during the birth.

To me midwifery is; to disturb as little as possible, support if and when it’s wanted and needed, and only act when it is truly indicated

Additional support at home in the first weeks after birth

Depending on the situation and possibly previous experiences of the first time as a parent, there may be a need for additional support at home in the first weeks after birth.

Why should you choose to have me assist in your home birth?

That’s something only you can answer!

It should above all else feel right for you/you when we meet, this is so important for a mutual trust to be created – where you feel fully safe in my presence.

I offer my knowledge and experience as a midwife and am always sensitive to your wishes.

I have a large ’toolbox’ of various techniques to support relaxation if you wish and need, and can also offer non-medical pain relief if you wish.

Midwife support in the home during early labour

Are you pregnant and have planned to give birth in the hospital, but want to stay at home as long as possible during the birth, or maybe you just feel like you’d want an additional level of support during the part of the birth where you are at home before going to the hospital?

Regardless of the reason, I can come to your home to offer emotional and physical support as needed, support to relaxation and maybe even sleep if that’s what the body needs. If desired, I can listen to the baby’s heartbeat with a pinard stethoschope or a doppler, give advice and assess how the birth is progressing.

The support is individually adapted based on preparatory talks and the needs of the moment.

What is included?

  • On call from pregnancy week 37+0
  • A session to prepare for the birth during pregnancy where we
    • overall go through what birth can look like
    • go through different ways to support the physiology of childbirth
    • wishes and any thoughts you have around the birth and support at home.
    • if desired, write a ’birth letter’ together to take to the hospital
  • Advice as needed during pregnancy via telephone/video call, e.g. before and/or after a visit to a midwifery clinic or specialist maternity care.
  • Support during birth at home, from the time you/you wish to have me there.
  • Pain-relieving and relief efforts such as e.g.
    • acupuncture
    • acupressure
    • massage
    • sterile water injections, etc.
  • Listening to fetal sounds if desired.
  • Assessment of the progress of the birth through external palpation and other external signs if desired, I can also do a vaginal examination if you ask for it.

*For travels over 30 minutes, a travel allowance of 40 sec/mile is added.

In time, it will also be possible within the framework of availability (based on other planned work) to contact me for ”urgent” support in the home during the ’latency phase’.

Midwife support in the home postpartum

Do you worry – or maybe you know for sure – that you will not have enough support around you during the first turbulent time as a new parent, and adding to that in a body that has just undergone a lot of change?
Many of us feel lonely during the first period of recovery – and all at the same time getting to know and taking care of the new little baby – often doesn’t add up along with everyday life.

I offer extra support at home after you give birth – regardless of where and how the birth took place.

The support is individually adapted to preparatory talks and the needs of the moment.

    • Validate and gives space for your feelings, whatever feeling arise in you.

Fear of childbirth sessions

In my opinion, there is always a good reason for fear of childbirth, regardless of what it consists of.
It’s from that viewpoint we explore, at your own pace, what the fear you hold consists of, how it affects you and possible ways to work with the fear – without valuing it and without specific end goals such as giving birth in a specific way.

You always have the opportunity to book a free introduction call that’s around 20-30 minutes long, where you get the opportunity to feel into whether I am the right person for you to work with.

My firm belief is that anyone living with fear of childbirth need to feel safe, seen and held in order to be able to open up and explore the fear. I will never expect trust but view it as something to deserve, and only you can decide if I am the right person for you.

If you are pregnant we can, if you wish, later on do a prenatal course before the birth based on your individual needs, where we go through the physiology of childbirth and life with a newborn, different ways to support the physiology and create a feeling of safety, and make a plan before the birth – regardless of the planned way of giving birth!

A session is 3 hours, this is for you to have the opportunity to really have time to settle, feel safe and talk in peace and quiet without being interrupted because time is running out. Set aside at least 2 of these 3 hours.

The session can be held in person or online.

Pricing:

2000 SEK/3 h.

Additional information:

If one or more follow-up calls are needed, whether this is needed is very individual, further sessions are priced with a package price of SEK 1,700/3h

If you are living with fear of childbirth that was not there from the start but was created after a previous negative or traumatic birth, I recommend we rather than a Fear of childbirth session do an Unravelling your trauma session, read more about this here.

preparing for birth course

Preparing for childbirth by gaining an overall understanding of the physiology of childbirth and how to work with the physiology through for ex. breathing, relaxation and mental preparation has been shown in studies and in the collective experience of midwives throughout the years to increase the chance for a positive and empowering experience of childbirth, which in itself leaves a strong inprint on the often turbulent first time as a new parent and family.

In this day and age, most of us haven’t been present at a birth before we ourselves are faced with giving birth to our first child, and what’s presented to us about giving birth is from movies, series and books. These often show a very medical, forced and often scary image of giving birth which rarely matches what it looks like in reality – at least in western society.

I personally don’t believe theoretical knowledge is needed about birth or specific techniques for breathing and relaxation to have a positive experience based on confidence in our body and ability. But I do believe the fact that we rarely see and experience other births before our first birth can create a vacuum that knowledge and techniques/tools can fill to find that inner confidence in oneself before and in childbirth.

This course is aimed at parents-to-be who feel that basic knowledge about childbirth and the experience of life with a newborn – and as a new parent – would be beneficial, and who want to explore this with plenty of time for individual design. Both you who are pregnant and a partner/support person (any additional support person/s who are supposed to be present at the birth are of course also welcome!) get concrete tips and tools to take home with you.

Layout:

2 sessions x approximately 3 hours, alternatively a longer call depending on your own wishes. The course take place at your home or as video calls depending on distance and preference.

We touch on things like:

  • Anatomy and physiology of birth
  • The different ’stages’ of birth and how they might be experienced
  • How trust, relaxation and breathing can affect birth physically and mentally
  • Concrete techniques and ’tools’ you and your support can use before and during birth
  • Physiological and medical pain relief that can be offered during childbirth – alternatives and possibly risks/benefits of these
  • ’Golden hours’ – meeting your baby and the first hours after birth
  • Routines in the hospital (might be something that’s helpful to know regardless of where and how the plan is to give birth)
  • If desired; how a caesarean section looks – and what the birthing/accompanying person can influence/ask for
  • Life with a newborn and as a new parent
  • If desired; the physiology of breastfeeding
  • Examples of birth planning/delivery letter and postpartum planning

Pricing:

SEK 4000/family /2×3 h (alt. 1 x 4-6 hours). When traveling longer than 30 minutes from Karlstad, a mileage allowance of 40 sec/mile is added
